Introducing New PDS* Plus (polydioxanone) Antibacterial Suture
Now you have an anitbacterial option of our most popular suture with the added benefit of fighting bacteria at the suture line.

  • PDS* Plus is a synthetic, absorbable monofilament suture designed for long-term wound support.
    Like VICRYL* Plus (polyglactin 910) and MONOCRYL* Plus (poliglecaprone 25)
  • PDS* Plus features the IRGACARE** MP (triclosan) treatment, which creates a zone of inhibition around the sutre to keep bacteria in check.
  • This added level of protection costs just cents more per suture.

An excellent monofilament suture choice for high-risk patients or procedures where bacterial presence is a concern.

  • Inhibits bacterial colonization of the suture by such known pathogens as E. coli, Klebsiellapneumoniae, Staph aureus, Staph epidermidis, Methicillin Resistant S. aureus, and Meththicillin Resistant S. epidermidis.***
  • In vivo testing has demonstrated the ability of MONOCRYL* Plus Antibacterial Suture to kill such bacteria as E. coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae.***
  • Excellent out-of-package strength.
  • Great pliability for smooth, even passage through tissue.
  • Easier to knot for precise knot placement.

Now you have two options when your case calls for an antibacterial suture.

  • VICRYL* Plus (polyglactin 910), the first and only Antibacterial Braided Suture and new MONOCRYL* Plus (poliglecaprone 25) Antibacterial Monofilament Suture, both contain Irgacare** MP, a pure form of Triclosan, which is a proven, broad-spectrum antibacterial.
  • In vitro studies demonstrate a zone of inhibition. In vivo studies demonstrate that Triclosan on the suture inhibits bacterial colonization of the suture.
  • Triclosan has been effectively used in consumer products for over 30 years.
  • Select an antibacterial suture for high-risk cases or procedures where bacterial presence is a concern:

Coated VICRYL* Plus Antibacterial (polyglactin 910) Suture

  • Designed to reduce bacterial colonization on the suture.***
  • In vivo testing has demonstrated the ability to kill bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus on the suture.***
  • Clinical evidence demonstrates a significant reduction in pain and edema.***
  • Handling and knot security of a braided suture.
